Since 2010, I’ve consulted for social justice organizations to identify and create narratives that inspire empathy and change. My work is rooted in using practical storytelling techniques I’d developed as a journalist, screenwriter and producer.

I’ve worked for foundations, non-profits, political candidates, strategists, government orgs, and think tanks.

Past social justice consultation:

  • The impact of gentrification in urban neighborhoods

  • The cultural impact of presidential archetypes in popular fiction

  • Highlighting ideal leadership traits for the upcoming presidential election

  • Generating creative briefs outlining archetypes and messages for specific demographics across the country, and combining them into narrative "clusters"

  • Creating personas around working women - the challenges they face in the work place, and their strategies for coping

  • Identifying overlapping narratives between different demographics for local elections

  • Analyzing the impact of new media (video games, social networking) on demographics

My work is based on interviewing target audiences, then interpreting transcripts to find their personal stories, biases, fears and hopes. With this knowledge, we convey messages that speak to their own stories. I then work closely with client advocates and content creators to help them shape the stories they tell to generate empathy and action.
